Warriors open fast
Tyler Crowe pitched six strong innings and the La Plata Warriors scored four first-inning runs to take early command in an 8-1 win over the visiting Northern Patriots in the baseball opener for both teams on Tuesday afternoon.
In the most recent meeting between the two teams, Northern defeated the then-defending state champion Warriors 4-1 in last year’s 3A South Region final. Northen’s Bret Blevins stymied the Warriors on that day. But on Tuesday, La Plata was able to score four runs in the first, then added a pair in each of the third and fifth innings to cruise to the opening-day win.
Crowe pitched six-plus, allowed one run on four hits and struck out three.
