Panthers take it to Warriors
After falling behind 2-0 through one inning at La Plata on Wednesday, the Patuxent Panthers responded with five runs in the second inning and cruised to an 8-2 win over the Warriors.
Patuxent (6-8) went down in order in the top of the first and then fell behind La Plata (4-10) on Rachel Bilbra’s two-run single in the inning’s bottom half. But Patuxent’s Sam Millar led off the second with a single to kick off a five-run, six-hit barrage. Ellie Lake’s RBI double plated Millar, while Lake later scooted across with the tying run. Later in the inning, Cara Holtzman smacked an two-run single that pushed the lead to 5-2.
Lake did not have things easy on the mound, as La Plata had at least one runner in scoring position each inning through five. But the Patuxent pitcher found her way out of trouble on each occasion, then worked perfect sixth and seventh innings to nail down the victory.
