Patriots blitz Raiders
Northern scored early and often in an 18-5 thrashing of Leonardtown in a boys lacrosse contest Thursday night at Leonardtown.
Northern (9-0) scored four goals in the first 4 minutes 46 seconds of the game and never looked back. Leonardtown (5-4) did come as close as 5-3 after Brandon Lutz scored the second of his three goals, but Northern reeled off the game’s next four goals to reassert itself.
After going to the half with a 9-4 edge, the Patriots outscored the Raiders 9-1 in the second half to win convincingly. Kevin Fleming scored five goals to lead all scorers, while Alex Frederick, Chris Baxa, David Matusek and Alex Cranford added two goals each for the Patriots.
In seven games against SMAC teams this year, Northern has outscored the opposition 104-19. The Patriots also beat Paul VI 15-8 in the championship game of the Casalino Cup tournament — the program’s first win over a WCAC program. Northern hopes to follow that up with a strong showing on Friday at 6 p.m. when it plays host to perennial regional power DeMatha.
