‘Canes win thriller

Huntingtown senior Matt Beyer recorded 14 outs in Tuesday night’s 3A semifinal against the Quince Orchard Cougars at Joe Cannon Stadium. Of the 14, 13 were strikeouts.

Beyer worked 4 2/3 no-hit innings in relief of starter Spencer Wolfe, who surrendered just one run through 5 1/3, and Chris Gaines drove in Joe Karbowsky with the game-winning run in the top of the 10th as the Hurricanes came out on top of a 2-1 thriller to advance to the 3A state championship game Saturday night at Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen.

Huntingtown (20-4) will square off against C.M. Wright, which defeated Atholton 2-0 in Tuesday’s other semifinal. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
