Panthers top Northeast, move to region final
Led by a six-goal effort by Michelle Denny and another five from Claire Ganoe, the Patuxent Panthers defeated the visiting Northeast Eagles 17-14 on Tuesday night to advance to the 3A/2A East final — the first regional final the program has ever qualified for.
Northeast (5-11) led 2-1 early, but Patuxent (10-4) reeled off three straight goals to surge ahead and never again trailed. The Panthers, which featured seven different goal scorers, led by as much as 16-10 with 3 minutes 3 seconds left in the second half before Northeast made a late charge to trim the final deficit.
Patuxent was scheduled to play its regional final Wednesday at Stephen Decatur.
