Warriors golf swings to sweep
Opening the new season with an uncharacteristically inexperienced lineup, the La Plata Warriors found enough consistencey to earn a season-opening sweep of Huntingtown, Northern and Thomas Stone in Southern Maryland Athletic Conference golf action Wednesday afternoon at Lake Presidential Golf Club in Upper Marlboro.
Reese Walston shot a 5-over 41 to tie for the low round of the day and lead the Warriors. Royce Hunsberger and Joey Dinatale each carded 42, while Jordan Twiford brought in a 48 in his first golf match to round out La Plata’s top four scores.
La Plata’s 173 was 10 strokes clear of Huntingtown. Northern shot 213 to finish third on the day, while Thomas Stone came in with an aggregate 231.
Huntingtown freshman Mark Cox carded a 41 to lead the host Hurricanes and tie for the days low round. Chuck Seward and Brandon Call each shot 47 for Huntingtown. Jacob Bennish led Northern’s effort with a 47, while Stone’s Zachary Tonstad also brought in a 47 to lead the Cougars.
